Mental Health Diagnoses
There are millions of people who are affected by mental health illnesses and disorders. According to NAMI Statistics, one in every five individuals has a mental health diagnosis. Therapy has proven results in people dealing with a wide range of mental health diagnoses such as mood disorders, anxiety disorders, personality disorders, bipolar disorders, post-traumatic stress disorders, and more. Here are the most common diagnoses that I treat in my private practice.
Anxiety
Anxiety disorders are the most common mental illness and affect 40 million adults in the United States over 18. People with anxiety experience intense feelings of fear and worry in their daily lives. Psychotherapy helps treat anxiety disorders and overall well-being.
Depression
There are many types of depression, but ultimately it is when intense emotions are persistent and ongoing. Depression can manifest in severe and constant feelings of hopelessness, sadness, anger, and even digestive issues, body aches, and pains. Therapy helps with treatment.
Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD)
BPD is a mental health disorder centered around the inability to manage emotions effectively. In most cases, all relationships are affected by this disorder. People who have BPD have trouble regulating their feelings and thoughts. They often have impulsive and reckless behavior. Research shows that consistent therapy warrants success.
Bipolar Disorder
There are three different types of bipolar disorder. The common theme amongst them is an unusual shift in your mood, energy, and activity levels. People who have bipolar disorder experience extreme intensity in their moods. There is proof that medication management and consistent mental health therapy treatment are successful.

Life Situations
I see individuals struggling with a broad range of issues and life stressors. Here are a few life situations that I help treat:
Life Transition
Change at any level can cause stress, depression, suppressed appetite, and even loss of sleep. Even positive life transitions can lead to some of the same struggles. Some examples of life transitions are: having a baby, moving, starting a new job, getting married or divorced, buying a new home, and more. People who have gone through life transitions have had success with therapy.
Parenting
Being a parent is a challenging job whether you’re married with children, separated and co-parenting, a single parent, or a foster parent. Mom guilt and Dad guilt are real. As a result, the thoughts of “am I doing this right” can be overwhelming. Whatever the situation is, a treatment plan centered around your child and your goals has been helpful for many clients seeking parenting therapy.
Relationships
Individuals seek out relationship help when they are struggling with relationship issues such as conflict, not getting their needs met, communication, sexual intimacy, coping with infidelity, or having feelings of doubt or questions about staying in the relationship. Other individuals are single and are interested in finding relationship intimacy and want help navigating the world of dating and finding deep connections. When people seek therapy, these are just some examples of relationship issues that people face.
Identity
Struggling with the various aspects of your identity is common, especially in our culture and the times we live in. We all hold multiple identities as human beings, some parts that need more space to develop and other aspects that we may be trying to shed. When a person doesn’t have a strong sense of self or identity, it can lead to anxiety, depression, codependency, and challenges with self-esteem, confidence, worth, and respect). Therapy has been effective in helping people who are struggling with identity issues.
Setting Boundaries
Boundaries are essential for any relationship, and when we don’t have them set, resentment can take over. Limits can be emotional, physical, intellectual, financial, and sexual. Therapy can help if you struggle with setting boundaries, keeping boundaries, or respecting the boundaries of others.
Imposter Syndrome
Imposter syndrome is common for many overachievers who seem to have it all together and yet feel a tug of unfulfillment in life. With the support of a licensed therapist, you can gain tools and skills to overcome and cope with imposter syndrome (and maybe even have the courage to do that thing you’ve always wanted to do).

Therapy Approaches & Modalities I Use
Relational Psychotherapy
The overarching meaning behind Relational Psychotherapy is that the relationships in your life play a significant role in your overall emotional well-being. It is those experiences, relationships, thoughts, or beliefs that have an impact on life satisfaction. This approach is especially beneficial when working on challenges you have with relationships in your life, such as family, friends, intimate relationships, school, and the workplace. It can help you understand how you express your emotions, establish a healthier relationship with your feelings, and help you gain insight into the relationship.
Psychodynamic Psychotherapy
When it comes to psychodynamic psychotherapy, the therapeutic relationship is the core foundation. As a result, the therapist can help clients uncover patterns developed and how they affect their day-to-day problems. Insight can come from emotions, thinking habits, mindset, belief systems, and life experiences. It will help clients understand how they develop defenses or even avoid emotions or situations by uncovering the patterns. Through learning these patterns, you will be able to create new ones that are more fulfilling.
Attachment-Based
Psychotherapy
With an attachment-based approach to psychotherapy, we would gain insight into how you connected with your primary caregivers in your early childhood and how it has influenced your emotional and physical relationships in adulthood. This approach is known to help individuals recover from troubled relationships and experiences. It helps treat anxiety, depression, trauma, self-harm, and suicide ideation. This approach works in both an individual and family setting.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
CBT helps bring awareness to the connection between your thoughts and behaviors and how they affect your mood. It has been effective in helping to break negative thought patterns and destructive behaviors, which results in an overall healthier mindset and improved quality of life. It is highly effective in treating anxiety, depression, mood disorders, eating disorders, substance abuse, and other serious mental illnesses.
Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)
Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) is a type of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy that contains four core areas (core mindfulness, distress tolerance, interpersonal effectiveness, and emotional regulation). I always recommend clients complement their therapy with group therapy to strengthen their DBT coping skills. While I don’t offer DBT Groups within my practice, I collaborate with other providers and notify my clients when any come up. DBT is helpful for those who have PTSD, suicide ideation, eating disorders, substance use disorders, bipolar disorder, and borderline personality disorder.
Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MCBT)
Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy is a combination of cognitive therapy, meditation, and mindfulness. Mindfulness is a technique that allows you to be present-oriented and detached from your thoughts to feel a sense of calmness and clarity. It is excellent for treating any mood disorder (especially anxiety or depression) to develop coping strategies that align with positive behavioral and emotional responses.
